2022 Summer Art Camp – Ages 11 to 14

We are grateful for the support of The Grable Foundation who make our youth programs possible.

The 2022 Summer Art Camp sessions will occur at the Pocosin Arts Summer Art Camp.

Lunch and snacks are provided for all students. Masks are required indoors.

Ages 11+

Limit of ten students per class.

Week 1: June 13 to June 17, 2022

Nature Journaling, Part 1

9 AM to 12 PM with Ann Workman
Location: Pocosin Lakes Wildlife Refuge

In this partnership with the Pocosin Lakes Wildlife Refuge, students will blend art and science to learn more about the wildlife of Eastern North Carolina! Following the example of famous scientists, students will spend the week recording their observations guided by one of Pocosin Lakes’ knowledgeable staff. They will have the chance to work with skulls, pelts, and pellets to learn more about our local ecosystem! 

Week 2: June 20 to June 24, 2022

Sculpting

9 AM to 12 PM with Chrystal O’Boyle
Location: Pocosin Arts’ Studio Building

Want to get your hands dirty? In this class, students will spend the week crafting their own creations using a variety of materials! We will experiment with different types of clay and papier-mâché.

Week 3: June 27 to July 1, 2022

Craft Sampler

9 AM to 12 PM with Chrystal O’Boyle
Location: Pocosin Arts’ Studio Building

In this class, we will explore a variety of craft materials and techniques. This class will introduce you to a variety of different processes including painting, printmaking, shrinky-dink, macrame, and more to create fun, unique projects!

Week 4: July 11 to July 15, 2022

DIY Decor

9 AM to 12 PM with Chrystal O’Boyle
Location: Pocosin Arts’ Studio Building

Personalize your room with one-of-a-kind decorations! Each student will make a personalized name plate, mobile, woven tapestry, and a luminary. When you’re done you’ll have everything you need to make your room reflect your personality!

Week 5: July 18 to July 22, 2022

Mini-Me

9 AM to 12 PM with Chrystal O’Boyle
Location: Pocosin Arts’ Studio Building

In this class, students will learn to sew miniature models of themselves! (These can be as realistic or imaginative as you choose!) Afterwards, we’ll sew clothes for our mini-me’s and create all kinds of accessories from cars to capes. Don’t want a mini-me? Make a model of your favorite character instead!

Week 6: July 25 to July 29, 2022

This week of Summer Art Camp will be a continuation of Week 1 and will allow students the opportunity to continue filling their nature journal or start a new one with even more animals, plants, and organisms to observe!
