2021 Summer Art Camp – Ages 11 to 14

We are grateful for the support of The Grable Foundation who make our youth programs possible.

The 2021 Summer Art Camp sessions will take place in the Rotary Club building and
the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Parish Hall due to renovations.

Ages 11 to 14

Limit of six students per class.

Week 1: June 14, 2021 - June 18, 2021

Paint Like the Masters!- SOLD OUT

1 PM to 4 PM with Alexis Spina
Location: Rotary building

Learn about famous artists by making paintings inspired by them! In this class, students will see artwork by famous artists and create their own inspired artwork using acrylic, tempera, and watercolor paint! Students will learn about and explore painting using various techniques.

Storytelling Through Book Making- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Alexis Spina
Location: Rotary building

Using paper and found materials, campers will learn how to create their own accordion-style handmade journal. Once completed, creative writing and drawing prompts will guide campers on how to fill the pages to create an illustrated journal for their summer adventures.

Week 2: June 21, 2021 - June 25, 2021

Fabric Craft Sampler- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Carrie Cranwell
Location: St. Andrews -106 N. Road St.

In this class students will get to explore making fun art projects with textiles. Students will get to weave beaded bracelets, screenprint, make a mini-pillow, and other fun activities! They will learn the basics of sewing, weaving, and more!

Crafting Crazy Creatures and Constructions- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Alexis Spina
Location: Rotary building

Campers will get their hands messy by learning the art of paper-mâché. After understanding the basics of working with the material, campers will be encouraged to get as creative as possible to create a sculpture of their choosing, ranging from imaginative creatures to hot air balloons.

Week 3: June 28, 2021 - July 2, 2021

Watercolor Painting-CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Carrie Cranwell
Location: St. Andrews -106 N. Road St.
Do you love making art and painting? Join us to explore painting with watercolors! In this class, students will be introduced to painting with watercolors. Students will learn how to paint using various watercolor techniques to create their own masterpieces!

Observing the World Around Us- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Alexis Spina
Location: Rotary building

Summer is a wonderful time for outdoor nature observation! Through explorations near the swampy marshes of the scuppernong river, campers will collect natural materials that catch their eye. From those materials, they will create shadow boxes and suncatchers, identifying our collections along the way.

Week 4: July 12, 2021 - July 16, 2021

Sewing Sampler!-CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Carrie Cranwell
Location: St. Andrews -106 N. Road St.
Are you interested in learning how to sew your own creations? Come learn how to sew by hand and with a machine! In this class, students will learn the basics of sewing and create cool projects to bring home! Students will learn how to make their own stuffed animal, pillows, and more!

Weaving A World of Color- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Alexis Spina
Location: Rotary building
Fibers and fabric have endless potential. Campers will learn to create their own loom, weave, and assemble tapestries while exploring the rich history of weaving and fabric dying in this week of textile exploration.

Week 5: July 19, 2021 - July 23, 2021

Charcoal Nature Drawing- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Carrie Cranwell
Location: St. Andrews -106 N. Road St.
Do you enjoy drawing and want to improve your skills? Learn how to draw the world around you while you explore drawing with charcoal sticks! In this class students will learn the basics of how to use charcoal tools and techniques while drawing. This is a great way to learn how to draw or improve your skills!

Build Some Bling-CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Alexis Spina
Location: Rotary building

Wearable art allows you to show off your creation as you go about your day! In this week of summer art camp, campers will create various elements to turn into broches, keychains, necklaces, and more. We will also dive into the history of jewelry and the basics of working with metal.

Week 6: July 26, 2021 - July 30, 2021

Make Your Mark!- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Carrie Cranwell
Location: St. Andrews -106 N. Road St.
Join us and explore making art in new ways! In this class, students will learn the basics of making art through different types of printmaking. Students will create unique designs and artwork with a variety of different materials, such as screen printing, handmade stamps, and more!

When Science and Art Collide- CLOSED

1 PM to 4 PM with Alexis Spina
Location: Rotary building

Science and art make a surprisingly good combination! Through the mixing of materials, students will learn why certain combinations of materials produce magic like results. This week we will grow our own geodes, make some magical flubber, and play around with alternative modes of coloring paper. Campers should come prepared to get  a little messy!
