Woven Steel Wire Vessels

Create simple, elegant woven wire vessels using a variety of gauges of mild steel wire. In making the main vessel structure, explore micro-welding with an oxy/acetylene torch. Then, learn a weaving process to complete vessels of your own design. Experiment with scale, add decorative wire elements, and a metal finish. Look at historic masterpieces and historic everyday kitchen objects for inspiration. Discover the magic that can be made from wire, this unpretentious but remarkable material.

Meet the Instructor

Christine Clark

Christine Clark is an artist living and working in Portland OR. Her work focuses on public art, installation art, and abstract sculpture in steel, steel wire, and mixed materials. She is a former Professor and Head of the Metals Department at Oregon College of Art and Craft where she taught jewelry/metalsmithing, sculpture, and installation art….
