Wood: Form and Surface

You will be led through the fundamentals of design, influence and a wide range of surface embellishment techniques on wood. Students can bring pre-turned/carved/found wood objects and/or test boards to work on. Our focus will be on individual designs implemented with a variety of carving and coloring techniques using rotary and hand carving tools, wood burning/branding and how to make your own burning tips. As well as applying color with acrylic/milk paints, waxes, inks and pencils.

Materials Fees for this workshop are estimated to be between $45-75. This does not include materials that may need to be purchased by the student prior to the workshop. Additional wood will be available for purchase by the board foot.

Graeme has over 30 years experience making and teaching in the woodworking field, best known for his sculptural turnings/carvings reflecting his life and environments in New Zealand.
