Session 5: Big Heads

Beginner
July 5 - July 9, 2027

Big Heads

In this workshop, you will learn to build a larger-than-life human head using the slab building technique. We will explore internal supports for constructing large-scale forms safely and effectively. Each facial feature will be developed in detail, focusing on proportion, structure, and expression. The sculpture will be completed by closing the back of the head using the spiral flat-coil technique and decorated with underglazes.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, but having experience working with clay is recommended.

Students can expect to spend $80 – $100 on materials provided by Pocosin or the instructor. This number is an estimate based on projected student usage and firings, and the final amount could be outside of this range.
