Sculptural Bowls: Exploring the Double-Walled Form

In this hands-on workshop, students use handbuilding techniques to explore the bowl form as both vessel and sculptural object. Beginning with small maquettes, students experiment with shape and proportion, working directly in clay to generate ideas. These studies inform hollow forms, translating solid sketches into vessels. Using pinching, coiling, carving, and slab building, students construct double-walled bowls exploring scale and volume. Work is bisque fired after the workshop.

Students can expect to spend $90 – $110 on materials provided by Pocosin or the instructor. This number is an estimate based on projected student usage and firings, and the final amount could be outside of this range.
