Narrative Woodworking: Carving the Plot

Metaphor, allusion, and oil stones all find their way into this carving centric woodworking workshop. Through hand and power carving, tool demonstrations, and individual/group experimentation, this class will build upon the latent storytelling ability of the functional and non-functional. We will cover several different approaches to decorative woodworking and find conceptual threads linking narrative devices with carving technique— expanding our understanding of ornamentation and form as meaning-making strategies.

Students can expect to spend $65 – $85 on materials provided by Pocosin or the instructor. This number is an estimate based on projected student usage, the final amount could be outside of this range.
