June 7 - June 11, 2027

Carving Within the Hand

Through traditional and experimental wood-carving processes, students will explore how gesture, texture, and form can emerge from solid wood. Working at a small scale, students will develop expressive, organic forms through a range of hand and machine carving techniques suited to detailed works designed to fit comfortably in the hand. The course will introduce and support explorations of bas-relief, carving in the round, chain carving, and expressive gestural approaches.

Students can expect to spend $30 – $50 on materials provided by Pocosin or the instructor. This number is an estimate based on projected student usage, the final amount could be outside of this range.
