Capture stones in molten metal and discover the rich textures of cuttlebone and sand casting. Explore in situ casting—casting with stones in place—from choosing suitable stones to designing molds that hold them securely. Demonstrations cover mold preparation, stone placement, pouring, finishing, and troubleshooting, opening possibilities for distinctive jewelry and small objects. Including Healing Hands practices which support studio wellness, comfort, and focus at the bench.

Basic metalsmithing skills and basic knowledge of casting are helpful. Students should be comfortable using a torch and standard metalsmithing tools and understand safe studio practices. This class will provide an overview of cuttlebone and sand casting, then focus on casting with stones in place.

All of our online workshops are recorded and, with purchase of the seat in the class, students have access to the recording(s) between workshop sessions as well as for 60 days after the workshop ends.
