Polishing and Surface Finishing for Metalsmiths

Polishing and finishing are some of the less-glamorous parts of the jewelry making experience, however they are probably two of the most important skill sets for a metalsmith to develop. In this workshop, students will learn how to execute several industry standard surface finishes, as well as best practices for fabricating with finishing in mind. Additionally, there will be a discourse about selecting the surface finish that best suits your work and how that can tie into a piece conceptually.


All of our online workshops are recorded and, with purchase of the seat in the class, you have access to the recording(s) between workshop sessions as well as for 45 days after the workshop ends.

Meet the Instructor

William Vanaria

William Vanaria received his BFA from MassART in 2012 majoring in “Jewelry & Metalsmithing.” He then received a MFA from UMass: Dartmouth in 2016, majoring in “Metals/Jewelry.” Since then, William has worked as an educator for various institutions as well as a jeweler and polishing specialist.
