Mokume gane, or wood grain metal, is a traditional Japanese technique where multiple metals are meticulously cleaned, alternately stacked, and then heated and compressed at high temperatures. This process fuses the layers into a solid block, or billet. In this workshop, participants will learn a western-influenced approach to mokume gane by using a digitally controlled electric kiln to fuse a copper and silver billet. No patterning demonstrations in this workshop, but students will see how to forge the billet in preparation. Basic metalsmithing skills are necessary for this course.

All of our online workshops are recorded and, with purchase of the seat in the class, students have access to the recording(s) between workshop sessions as well as for 60 days after the workshop ends.
