Creatures of the Clay: from Solid to Hollow

In this workshop, I will lead the participants through sculpting an approximately 10” tall animal out of solid clay which will then be hollowed out. I prefer this technique for pieces of this size because of the freedom of movement the solid clay provides. Once the animal is built solid, we will then cut it into a few pieces, hollow it out, then reassemble and repair the cut lines. From there we will go over adding details like eyes, teeth and a few different ways to make fur texture.

Jai Sallay-Carrington

Jai Sallay-Carrington is a sculptural ceramic artist from Vancouver BC and Montreal QC. Jai is a queer and non-binary artist who’s work is heavily influenced by this aspect of their life. In 2014 they graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in ceramics. Jai has attended many artist residencies, traveling around Canada, USA and Europe….
