Altered Surfaces and Sensitive Sifting

This workshop will explore techniques for creating a tactile patterned surface through the interaction of relief techniques with fine layers of applied enamel.

During the class Jessica will demonstrate and describe techniques she has developed for combining textured metal surfaces with vitreous enamelling techniques. 

She will explore methods for creating relief, texture and pattern on the underlying  metal surface, and then how to use sifting techniques to enable enamel to interact with, and be altered by, these textures.

Meet the Instructor

Jessica Turrell

Jessica trained in jewellery and enamel at Central School of Art, London. After graduation, she established a studio in Bristol, England, and she now divides her time between studio work and teaching.   Jessica’s practice is characterized by a career-long engagement with vitreous enamel.
