Workshop Proposal

Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft typically schedules over 30 national on-campus workshops and over 150 online workshops each year in the following media: ceramics, metals, wood and mixed media.

Artist / Instructor Background

We seek artists creating compelling work who are also exceptional educators. Ideal candidates should possess a combination of strong technical expertise, the ability to convey conceptual ideas effectively, excellent interpersonal skills, and a generous approach to sharing knowledge and techniques. We welcome applications from both studio artists and professional educators. While prior teaching experience is not required, it is highly encouraged.

Workshop Content

We are particularly interested in classes that:

• Explore contemporary expressions in craft
• Innovate while maintaining a strong connection to material and process
• Incorporate or emphasize historical techniques and traditions
• Cover specific skills and techniques that are unique to the instructor's work
• Include innovative perspectives to skills
• Thoroughly explain (verbally and visually) the proposed topics
• Explore contemporary and/or historical practices
• Engage students to explore the topics they learned within the context of their own practice

Application Review & Selection Process

• Applications are reviewed periodically throughout the year
• Due to our long-term planning process, it may take time—sometimes several years—for a proposal to align with our program needs
• If your proposal is a good fit or if we require more information, we will contact you directly
• All proposals are kept on file for three years and considered for future programming opportunities
