Alexandra Mavrikis

Alexandra Mavrikis, born in New York City, is an artist, educator, and woodworker based in Southern California. She received her MFA in Woodworking & Furniture Design from San Diego State University. By focusing on sculptural furniture that impedes comfort and familiar activities, she interrogates the idea of women as providers of comfort in the home through craft. Straddling the line between sculpture and craft, Mavrikis uses the language of furniture to create otherworldly, surreal sculptures.
