Session 1: August 30 - September 27, 2022

Clay and Fiber Friends - with Chrystal O'Boyle

Tuesdays 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM

 

Clay, fiber, and animals — what could be better? This multidisciplinary class will combine ceramics and fiber arts! You will learn to use both felting and ceramics to sculpt animals inspired by real life and your imagination! By the end of the class take home several finished pieces that will highlight your artistic skills.

Session 2: October 4 - November 1, 2022

Clay Monsters! - with Chrystal O'Boyle

Tuesdays 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM

 

“Clay Monsters” is a chance for students to make their own pieces of sculptural art. Throughout the class, the students will learn handbuilding techniques such as coil, pinch, slab, and how to properly attach pieces of clay to one another. You will have a blast working with clay to sculpt monsters from your own imagination! Students will also get to decorate their creations with any and every color of the rainbow making their Clay Monsters unique to them!

Session 3: November 8 - December 13, 2022

ABC's of Clay - with Chrystal O'Boyle

Tuesdays 3:30 PM to 5 PM
This session will not meet on November 22

 

Let’s learn about clay! This camp will focus on the fundamentals of ceramics, including pinching, coil building, simple stamp making, and glazing. By the end of the class, students will take home functional ceramic cups, mugs, and more to use at home or give as gifts for the holidays!

Instructor: Chrystal O'Boyle

Chrystal has had a lifelong love of the arts. Born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Chrystal attended the School of Art at the University of Arkansas and graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in art education. In 2018 she became a teaching artist at the Community Creative Center, instructing classes in ceramics, painting, and glass fusing. In the past year, she completed her post-baccalaureate at the University of Oklahoma studying ceramics. While in Oklahoma she also worked as a studio school instructor at Oklahoma Contemporary. When she isn’t in the studio she enjoys reading, hiking, and spending time with friends and family.

Safety Precautions

To keep our students and instructors safe we are implementing the following safety protocols:

  • All students and instructors will wear masks while indoors. 

  • We ask that our students wash or sanitize their hands regularly and do not share materials while in the classroom. 

  • If a student, family member or close acquaintance tests positive for COVID19 we ask that you notify the staff at Pocosin Arts immediately.

  • All students are encouraged to be up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccine.

Tyrrell County Health Department and Columbia Pharmacy offer free vaccination appointments, and rapid tests are available.
