Design and Prototype

through Board Games

Jonathan Seethaler
April 5-6, 2019

In this workshop students will explore the processes of conceptualizing designs, prototyping and usability through the medium of board games. This 2 day workshop will be full of opportunities to develop ideas, test ideas, and prototype. For this workshop students will have access to computers, a laser cutter, three 3d printers, and basic hand and power tools. Experience with design software is a great benefit, although it is not required. Please bring any current game ideas, designs, and prototypes that you would like to work with or receive feedback from. This workshop includes a $10 material fee that can be used to buy shop material of choice. Additional materials will be available for purchase.

Introduction to Laser

Cutting Objects

Andrew Kuebeck
July 12-16, 2019

Students in this class will be introduced to the multitude of possibilities while using laser cutting in their studio practice. From exactly reproducing a design for a modular piece to creating one of a kind objects; this class will demonstrate ways of creating and importing imagery for cutting and engraving, how to correctly and safely use the laser cutter, and how to cut multiples & post production work. Some experience with computer image editing is helpful, but not required, as there will be demonstrations on all steps of the process.

Mixed Media Design

Inspired by Nature

Susan Fecho
August 23-27, 2019

Utilizing the environment, this course will investigate interpreting both observed and collected forms to developing designs connected to “Place.” Found patterning and textures will inspire imagery and designs on paper and fabric. Students will investigate various surface-design techniques including: eco-dying, takbon printing and monotype printing. Students will enhance their ability to focus on vernacular questions through embellished collage. Students will also experiment with 3d-printing and dye-cutting as a means to develop low to medium reliefs that can be repeatable within the design. All levels.
