Ceramics Community Classes for Adults

Our ceramics classes are open to all skill levels, from beginner to experienced.  We will teach you the basics on how to work with clay, while giving you ample time to explore your creativity.  Students will work to create a finished piece to take home with them at the end of the class.

Classes meet Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Each class meets for 6 weeks


January 24 – February 28, 2017

Instructor: Meaghan Gates, Pocosin Arts’ Ceramics Artist in Residence

Title: Creative Mosaic

Description:  Explore techniques used to create fantastic mosaic creations!  You will learn traditional mosaic building techniques using repurposed vintage ceramic wares.  Instruction will include how to create your own tiles, how to create and apply a design, and how to construct your mosaic.  Students will create their own mosaic to take home at the end of the course.

Skill Level:  Beginners to Experienced Artists welcome

Cost: $75

Title: The Basics of Ceramics

Description:  Learn the basics of traditional handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques.  More advanced students have the opportunity to learn new adaptations to these traditional building techniques.  You will focus on how to utilize simple decorating and clay building techniques to create objects that can range from simple and sweet to complex and amazing.

Skill Level:  Beginners to Experienced Artists welcome

April 18- May 23, 2017

Instructor: Ben Jordan, Pocosin Arts’ Ceramics Artist in Residence

Title: Handbuilding: Making Cups and Pots

Description:  Learn the basics of traditional handbuilding.  More advanced students have the opportunity to build more advanced forms using these traditional building techniques.  You will focus on how to use your hands to created cups for tea and coffee (or any thing you enjoy). Simple decorating and clay building techniques will be utilized so you can create your own unique designs.
